In this episode, I discuss the power of positive training for puppies, and and dangers of other forms of training.  Positive reinforcement training is especially important for young puppies to to teach them the behaviors that we want, and help prevent them from developing behavior problems.

Dogs repeat behaviors that are rewarding. For example, if your dog gets a treat when he sits, he will be more likely to sit again in the future. That’s why positive reinforcement training, or training with rewards, is so effective.

Positive reinforcement training uses a reward (treats, praise, toys, anything the dog finds rewarding) for desired behaviors. Because the reward makes them more likely to repeat the behavior, positive reinforcement is one of your most powerful tools for shaping or changing your dog's behavior.
